The Plumbing Realities of Randburg
Randburg was proclaimed back in 1959 and named after the Rand, and that history shows up in its pipes. The suburb is a real mix, and the plumbing problems follow the housing.
The established pockets, Ferndale and the older garden suburbs, are freestanding homes on big, tree-lined stands laid out from the 1950s and 60s. Homes that age are onto their second or third geyser, often still run stretches of original galvanised pipe that corrodes and drops pressure, and those mature gardens push tree roots straight into old drain lines. A "quick blocked drain" on one of these properties is frequently a root intrusion that needs proper clearing, not a plunger.
Then there is the density. Randburg carries a heavy load of complexes, townhouses and apartment blocks, which brings its own plumbing: shared drainage that backs up across units, budget geysers reaching end of life all at once, and body corporates who need a plumber who turns up and keeps the paperwork clean. Add the Randburg business district, home to names like MultiChoice and SuperSport, and the light-industrial node at Strijdom Park, and there is steady commercial work on top of the homes.
